Move to the cloud without a bad weekend
Cloud migration goes wrong in predictable ways: email cut over before anyone tested it, files moved without permissions, and a monthly bill nobody forecast. All three are avoidable, and all three are about planning rather than technology.
What we move
- Email and Microsoft 365, including the mailboxes people care about most
- File shares, with permissions preserved rather than rebuilt by hand
- Line-of-business applications and the servers behind them
- On-premise servers to AWS or Azure where that genuinely costs less
How we avoid downtime
- A written cutover plan with a rollback path at every step
- A pilot group first, so problems are found by five people not fifty
- Cutover outside business hours, with someone on hand the next morning
Keeping the bill under control
- A forecast of the monthly cost before anything moves
- Right-sizing after migration, when real usage is known
- A review at 30 and 90 days - cloud bills drift if nobody looks
Common questions
Is the cloud actually cheaper?
Sometimes, and we will tell you when it is not. It reliably buys flexibility and resilience. Pure cost savings depend on what you run and how steady the load is - steady, predictable workloads are often cheaper left where they are.
Will we lose email during the move?
No. Mail flow is kept running throughout and cut over deliberately. If something is wrong we roll back rather than push through.
What about our old server?
Kept running until the new setup has proven itself, then decommissioned properly with a full backup retained.
